I remember when Prince’s song 1999 was released. At 7 or 8 years of age, 1999 seemed so far away. Time doesn’t just fly by, it zooms by faster than the speed of light sometimes.
I’ve accepted that life will continue to move by quickly and I’ve also learned to accept that there’s more to life than just watching it fly by.
Life is just one experience after another and as long as you’ve learned a lesson from your experience, you’ll be ok. One saying I often repeat is “Whatever doesn’t kill you will only make you stronger” and this statement is so true. When you are deciding if you should do something (be it buy a house, ask for raise, ask someone out on a date), regardless of the situation, the end result will be yes or no. That’s all it can be. Don’t stress yourself out on the “What if” as that’s a waste of time. Instead of creating all sorts of reasons why we shouldn’t do something – train yourself to create all sorts of reasons why you can do something!
I’d like to share one of my favourite poems which I’ve always found inspirational and encourages you to live your life and never give up on your dreams!
When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest, if you must, but don’t you quit.
Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about,
When he might have won had he stuck it out;
Don’t give up though the pace seems slow–
You may succeed with another blow.
Often the goal is nearer than,
It seems to a faint and faltering man,
Often the struggler has given up,
When he might have captured the victor’s cup,
And he learned too late when the night slipped down,
How close he was to the golden crown.
Success is failure turned inside out–
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far,
So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit–
It’s when things seem worst that you must not quit.
