It’s in your mind…It’s Thiller!!!

It’s that time of the year when the nights get longer and the days are colder and I’ve noticed more and more people with their winter coats, hats and mittens.  Though it’s just the beginning of the inevitable known as winter, there is always one event that will have children and parents outside at night regardless of the weather.  It’s time for Halloween.

I’m not a Halloween fanatic but I do love seeing kids dressed up in costumes walking around in search of treats.  It reminds me of the days when I would go out with my siblings and eventually my friends, walking around as people gave us candy for just saying ‘Trick or Treat’.  What I can’t stand to see is when a tween/teen doesn’t even pretend they put any effort into a costume and they walk up to my house in the clothes they wore to school earlier that day.  Why am I giving these kids candy?  Why I don’t just go to a school and hand out candies to all the kids?  C’mon!

As an adult I haven’t really been one to dress up but in the past couple of years I’ve been attending an annual Halloween costume party and love it.  I’ve mentioned in a recent entry about an event called Amnesia and the founders of this event hold an Annual Halloween Costume party where people go all out.  I love it because nothing is too outrageous and you would never feel out-of-place!!

They play all the best from the 80’s and 90’s!  There is only one song I can think of that makes me think of Halloween in the 80’s.  I’ll give you one chance to guess…THAT’S RIGHT…IT’S THRILLER!!! How can anyone hear this song and not want to dance?  One of my favorite parts of the song is by the Master of Scare…Mr. Vincent Price.  As a kid the video and song freaked me out a bit but it gradually found a special place in my heart.

This song has inspired the following poem.

It’s in your mind…

What was thatI just heard a sound.

What ran bywhat’s on the ground?

Hello?…HELLO??!…Is someone there?

I want to peek out but I’m afraid to stare.

I just heard it againit’s getting near…

I can try to run but how do I outrun fear? – end.
